Henry started fencing at the age of 17 while studying at Raffles Junior College in 1992. Within 2 years, he managed to accomplish a 4th placing in National Championships 1995. While pursing his degree at Stanford University on the Overseas Merit Scholarship, he fenced for leisure and started to be competitive from 1999 after his return to Singapore. He won 3rd in Foil at the National Fencing Championship 1999 and joined the National Foil Team, holding the top rank for several years till late 2005.

Henry has won over 30 medals including 12 golds in his fencing career. He was a double bronze medalist at the 2003 South East Asia Games in Vietnam (individual and team events for Men's Foil), and the first Singaporean in 15 years to win an individual medal for this event.
