After the first two days of SEA Games Fencing events, Blade Club (Singapore and Malaysia) fencers performed very well and made some historic results! Congratulations to Gold medalists Kiria Tikanah (representing Singapore) and Mayakarn Chornnasun (representing Thailand), and Silver medalists Maxine Wong (representing Singapore) and Hans Yoong (representing Malaysia), and Bronze medalist Joshua Lim (representing Singapore).

For Singapore, Kiria and Maxine both performed beyond expectations by winning their medals despite participating in their first SEA Games. Maxine’s achievement gives Singapore its first-ever one-two placing in the Women’s Foil event. Kiria’s win was particularly sweet for her because it was the first Women’s Epee Gold medal in 30 years. Joshua’s win means he adds a personal podium finish to his numerous other medals, including Team Gold from SEA Games 2015.

For our other SEA Blade Club athletes, Mayakarn’s hard-fought 15-14 win over Hans brings the Men’s Foil title back to Thailand; it was a title held for numerous editions of the event by his coach and Blade Club Malaysia head coach Nontapat Panchan. Hans achievement was also a very exciting and historic result for Malaysia, as the last time there was a medal other than bronze was in 1989.

Together, Blade Club would top the medal table with this tally! Congratulations to the athletes and their coaches Simon, Non, and Henry for the results!
