The Singapore Women’s Epee Team flew to Spain in early February to compete in the Barcelona World Cup. Blade Club and Singapore’s top ranked fencers SIVA KUMAR Thhivya Ashti (#6), ABDUL RAHMAN Kiria Tikanah (#1), and KOH Elle Meihui (#2) were part of the contingent that fenced in both the Individual and Team events.

In the Individual event, Kiria set a new record by becoming the first Singaporean Women’s Epeeist to emerge victorious through 2 rounds of Direct Eliminations, just falling short of making it to the second day of competition and the final 64. She first beat GUNAC Gokce (TUR) in a tight match 15-14, followed by a big upset against TOTH Jazmin (HUN), before losing out to BUKI Lili (HUN).

For the team event, Singapore was drawn against Switzerland in the Top 32. Kiria anchored the Singapore Team alongside teammates Thhivya, Elle, and Vicky. The girls fought valiantly, coming really close to the Swiss several times at 17-15, and 41-38, but unfortunately the opponents never really relinquished the lead for a final result of 45-39. Regardless, it was an impressive showing against a more fancied Swiss team that had all 4 fencers progress into the Final 64 of the individual competition.

Well done to the Singapore Women Epeeists!
