Raffles invites tournament is held every year, attracting participants from across Singapore fencing clubs and schools. This year the competitions ran on December 7th – 8th at Raffles Junior College, giving both beginning and experienced foilists, epeeists and sabreurs a perfect opportunity to dive into the magic world of fair competition and combat.

Foilist Lemuel Huang, 12, won gold medal at Junior (U20) competition, despite his young years. In the men’s foil final he defeated his clubmate, Nicholas Ng, who finished with a silver medal. That match was tight through the first period but Lemuel built a small lead which he never relinquished, beating Nicholas, 15-10.

Elle Koh, with a big advantage, holds a record for the number of cups collected by anyone last weekend. Elle, also 12 years old, won gold in both Junior women’s foil and Junior women’s epee categories and went through to semi-finals of Junior women’s sabre event, finishing with a bronze medal.

Another strong performance was shown at Junior men’s sabre event by Yulun Zhang. In a field of 33 competitors, Yulun came through the poule stage with four victories from five matches. A disciplined and mature performance in the elimination round took him to a bronze medal.

On behalf of Blade Club, we’d like to thank all authorities, organizers and referees and congratulate fencers and coaches with their marvellous results!
